LCD SOUNDSYSTEM: THIS IS HAPPENING

LCD Soundsystem

This Is Happening
DFA/EMI

This Is Happening sounds like someone with ADD (and a laptop). It's all over the place. From indulgent, nine minute-long mantras, to goofy noise-rock jams and full-blown laser-and-shoulder-pads robotics. It's a festival of post-punk flavours. A medley of blips, dance-punk synths and self-conscious indie-pop hooks.

"Drunk Girls" reminds me of bratty noise-rock goons Japanther. With a wallowing guitar riff and real-sounding drums, "All I Want" reeks of The Strokes. "Somebody's Calling Me" sounds like a straight rip of Iggy Pop's "Nightclubbing". "One Touch" sounds like crazy, secretary-loving Jo'burg dance punks Johnny Neon. And "Pow Pow" reminds me of Cake. LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy just won't sit still. Read the full review here (Speakerbox.co.za).
